What it’s Like to Run a Blog

So when I initially was told I should have a blog, I thought that would be a great idea. I have lots of stories that I like to share, so why not put them all in one place?

Here’s the problem with having a blog: it’s like when you tell someone that you’re funny and they respond with “Oh! Tell me a joke!” And suddenly the only one you can think of is “why’d the chicken cross the road?”

I have all these things I want to say, but when it comes to writing them down, I have nothing. Hence the reason why, as of right now, this blog is only updated every 6 months. But I promise, I’m working on it.

I’ve tried looking at Pinterest “Blog Post Topics” but this isn’t a lifestyle blog, and it’s not a ~how to~ guide either. It’s just a platform where I ramble. And it’s hard because some of the things I’m most excited to write about I haven’t actually done. Like finish that book I’ve been reading for TWO YEARS or the adventurous spring break trip to Europe that’s happening in 2019. So my brilliance to cure this “blogger’s block” is to create a bucket list of things I want to write about (5 posts) by the new year:

  1. A book review on that book that I’ve been reading FOR TWO YEARS (implicitly noting that I will have to finish it first)
  2. My favorite ways NOT to study for finals
  3. A recap of a James/Garrity Family Christmas (the best pictures will be included)
  4. Finals Season People Watching
  5. A real reflection of the semester (the good, the bad, and the ugly)

So in a way, this is PSA to tell you that I’m going to be posting more ludicrousness so stay tuned!

It’s also a reminder that I’ve been reading a book for two years and the younger version of me who read all 40 books on the Battle of the Books list in 4th grade, who read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in one night, is so freaking disappointed in 20 year old me.

UPDATE: I posted this and WordPress sent me a little notification saying this is my 20th post and now about-to-go-to-college with high hopes of running a blog 18 year old me is pretty disappointed too. Great.
